It is so commonly known to every housewife it were labour lost to describe it.
It is also called Orach and Arage and Mountain Spinach. Occasionally it is grown as a vegetable. A tall erect plant, it has large leaves.
Where to find it: It grows naturally in Western Asia, but otherwise is cultivated.
Flowering time: From early to late summer.
Astrology: It is under the government of the Moon, cold and moist like her.
Medicinal virtues. Being eaten, it softeneth and looseneth the body of man, and fortifieth the expulsive faculty in him. Whether bruised and applied to the throat, or boiled and similarly applied, it matters not much. It is excellent for swellings in the throat. The best way is to drink the decoction and apply the herb outwardly. The decoction is an excellent remedy for the yellow jaundice.

Modern uses:
It is not now used in medicine.
