It also removes all the mucous matter from the intestines which harbours them. Modern uses: The herb and root are dried and powdered and used in small doses for jaundice and liver congestion. It promotes urine flow and is laxative. In large doses it is emetic and purgative. Deaths have been recorded due to its use as an abortion agent. It is not recommended for domestic use. As a cardiotonic it relieves cardiac oedema, via the urine. A tincture of the fresh flowering plant is used in homoeopathic medicine for rheumatic and arthritic conditions, the dose being five drops. |
