It expels wind out of the stomach and opens obstructions of the womb.
The commonest of the wild Mints. It has hairy stalks, large leaves and purple flowers growing in round spikes. It is a smaller plant than Garden Mint.
Where to find it: River banks, marshes and other wet places.
Flowering time: Midsummer to mid autumn.
Astrology: A herb of Venus.
Medicinal virtues: The distilled water of the herb is carminative and anti-spasmodic, relieving colic and other disorders of the bowels, instantaneously. It is good to remove gravel, and hysteric depressions.
Modern uses: Astringent and emetic, it is mainly used for looseness of the bowels being given by infusion. It also stimulates the menstrual flow. Made too strong, the infusion becomes emetic. Taken hot, the infusion induces perspiration and is valuable in fevers and inflammatory conditions.
