simson.jpg (7032 bytes) SIMSON (Blue)  ERIGERON ACER

A remedy for disorders of the breast.
Also known as Blue Fleabane or Sweet Fleabane. The flowers are separate, one above another, on alternate sides of the stem. The leaves are a dull green and the flowers a purplish-blue and never spread wide open. It is a less attractive plant than the Common Fleabane, Pulicaria dysenterica.
Where to find it: Dry grassland, banks, dunes and walls.
Flowering time: Midsummer.
Astrology: Mars governs this plant.
Medicinal virtues: It is a sharp, acrid plant. Although a remedy for disorders of the chest arising from tough phlegm, it is one that should be cautiously tampered with.
Modern uses: Both this and Common Fleabane have fallen from use. The Canadian Fleabane is to be preferred, although that too is an unpleasant medicine. See Fleabane.
