SNEEZEWORT ACHILLEA PTARMICA
The powder of the herb snuffed up the nose, causes sneezing, and
cleanses the head of tough slimy humours.
A perennial also known as Bastard Pellitory. It has a long, slender fibrous root, woolly
upright stems growing to about two feet (60 cm), and long narrow leaves finely
serrated at the edges. The flowers are produced in a white umbel and are larger than the
flowers of Yarrow.
Where to find it: Roadsides, damp meadows, marshes and by streams. Flowering
time: Midsummer.
Astrology: Not assigned to any planet.
Medicinal virtues: The root held in the mouth eases the toothache by evacuating the
rheum. It can be used in salads.
Modern uses: Once a famous herbal medicine, Sneezewort was officially discarded by
the medical profession 2oo years ago. It is closely related to Yarrow (Achillea
millefolium).
