| TEA CAMELLIA
THEA Strong tea is prejudicial to those with weak nerves. An evergreen shrub growing about eight feet (2.4 m) high with oblong leaves and white flowers like that of the Dog Rose. It produces a berry. Where to find it: Tea is cultivated in China, Japan, Ceylon and India. Flowering time: Varies depending on where it is grown. Astrology: Not assigned to any planet. Medicinal virtues: The leaves are dried and roasted, then rolled. Green tea is diuretic and gently astringes the fibres of the stomach, toning it and improving digestion. A strong solution is salutory for headache and sickness due to inebriation. Modern uses: Tea contains tannin, which is astringent and helps to check a loose bowel. It is, therefore, not suitable for those with constipation. It also contains caffeine, which is stimulating to the nervous system. Used moderately, it is sedative and relaxing, but taken to excess will cause sleeplessness and nervous and digestive disturbances. It is so extensively used domestically that it is rarely used as a medicine. |
